Day 80 (2026-10-19 UTC) draws 10 rounds from 10 franchises: Pokémon, Xenoblade Chronicles, Family Guy, Half-Life, League of Legends, Overwatch, Mass Effect, Animal Crossing, Genshin Impact, Neon Genesis Evangelion. The tightest matchup has the two post counts 41% apart, and the most lopsided round is a 134× gap. Between them, the 20 characters drawn today account for 118,194 posts on rule34.xxx. No names are revealed here, so nothing above spoils a round.

Every count on the board is frozen at the latest data sync, . Counts are refreshed from rule34.xxx's public tag statistics about once a day, so the same matchup can flip its answer between one week and the next.

How the Daily Challenge Works

The Daily Challenge is the rule34 game's Wordle-style mode. Instead of an open-ended streak, you get exactly 10 rounds, and the matchups are the same for everyone who plays on the same UTC day. Each round shows two characters side by side. The left character's post count on rule34.xxx is revealed; the right character's is hidden. Your only job is to decide whether the hidden number is higher or lower than the one you can see.

After you answer, the hidden count spins up and the round is marked correct or wrong. The next pair slides in automatically. A wrong guess does not end the run: unlike Endless Mode, you always play all 10 rounds, and your score is simply the number you got right. At round 10 the board locks, your result is saved in your browser, and the results card takes over.

The ten pairs come from a fixed seed built from the date, so nothing about them depends on your device, your language or the order you loaded pages in. Two friends in different time zones get identical rounds as long as they play on the same UTC calendar day. At 00:00 UTC the seed changes, the day number in the heading ticks up by one, and a new challenge starts. Day 1 was 2026-08-01, and the count has run every single day since.

The character pool is the full playable roster across every category on the site, with franchise tags excluded. If you want to warm up on a narrower set first, the category pages below each run an Endless game restricted to one franchise.

Scoring, Scorecards and Streaks

Your score is out of 10. Every finished run produces a scorecard: a row of 10 coloured blocks in round order, 🟩 for a correct guess and 🟥 for a miss. The share text is three lines: the day number and date, the block row with your score, and the link to this page. Nothing in it names a character, so you can post it to a group chat or a Discord server without spoiling the challenge for anyone who has not played yet.

The Daily Challenge does not have a streak in the Endless sense. In Endless Mode one wrong answer ends the run, and your streak is the number of consecutive correct guesses before that miss; your best streak is remembered in your browser. In Daily, a miss costs you one point and play continues. A 10/10 is the daily equivalent of a perfect streak, and a 5/10 is exactly what a coin flip would earn on average, so anything above that is real knowledge showing through.

Ties are scored as correct. If two characters have exactly the same number of posts, both "higher" and "lower" are accepted. Daily always runs on the default settings: franchise tags are excluded, AI-generated posts are included in the counts, and Hardcore Mode is off. Those toggles exist only in Endless Mode, because changing them would give players different numbers for the same pair.

Daily Challenge FAQ

Is the Daily Challenge really the same for everyone?

Yes. The ten matchups are derived from the UTC date with a fixed random seed, so every player on Earth who opens the page on the same UTC day sees the same ten pairs in the same order, compared with the same post counts.

When does a new Daily Challenge start?

At 00:00 UTC. The day number in the title, the ten rounds and the scorecard all roll over at that moment, whatever your local time zone says.

Can I replay yesterday's challenge?

No. Only the current UTC day is playable. The matchups and answers from the last seven days are listed further down this page, so you can check what you missed, but there are no separate pages or replays for past dates.

Why does the page say I already finished today?

Your result is saved in this browser's local storage. Opening the page again shows your scorecard instead of a fresh run. Clearing site data or using another browser or device starts you over, because nothing is stored on a server or tied to an account.

What happens if I refresh in the middle of a run?

Only a finished result is saved, so a refresh mid-run restarts you at round 1 with the same ten matchups. Finish all ten in one sitting to lock in a scorecard.

Do ties count as correct?

Yes. If both characters have exactly the same post count, either answer is scored as correct. With counts in the thousands this is rare, but the rule exists so a coin-flip round can never cost you.

Does the Daily Challenge use Hardcore Mode or the AI filter?

No. Daily always runs on the default settings: no franchise tags, AI-generated posts included in the counts and Hardcore Mode off. That keeps the numbers identical for everyone. Those toggles only apply to Endless Mode.
